Not Fooling Anybody: Gordmans in Johnstown, NY

As Stage Stores converts all brands under their ownership to the off-price Gordmans label, we will see conversions that still resemble their former selves.

This one is located in the Johnstown Mall in Johnstown, NY. Believed to be White-Modell, this was converted to Peebles around the late 1990s. A Peebles labelscar is very distinct due to the Gordmans logo being smaller.

As these are quick conversion, very little is changed other than decor and computer/inventory systems.

Another thing that has changed is Gordmans uses real shopping carts, instead of the "department store carts", which are basically strollers with a pouch for merchandise. Gordmans actually kept the Peebles ones, fully untouched. One oddity is these carts come with a cupholder, which is off-putting since this doesn't seem to be the type of "department store" to even sell soda or water as a convenience item.

Well, at least these aren't 2019 units, ha ha.
