Rite Aid to Walgreens Conversion: East Greenbush, NY

Consider this to be an update to a June 2018 blog post about this Rite Aid.

The blue awning has been stripped off and there is red trim. I thought when I did my first post they might have been in the middle of updating this store to the Wellness store type, but you will see what really happened.

Walgreens will be coming soon. Remembering what happened to the Ridge Road location in Greece, NY, we know what the finished conversion might look like.

Alas, nothing has changed. When this store got the Wellness treatment, the remodel was never completed. Note the pale blue tiles to the left and Customer World-era gooseneck signs.

Didn't realize I photographed this aisle marker in the previous post! This time, the Food Mart is visible.

Three months later...

One side has no signage but one has signage?

Hmm... a bad tape job AND a Walgreens-labeled handle? What a twist!

Same flooring, new fixtures and decor.

That wraps this post up. Out!

  1. Got to say that it looks odd to see that building without the blue awning. Glad to see they are reusing the building nonetheless.

  2. This one was completed and reopened just before Easter. They also converted the store in West Sand Lake (Rt. 150 & 43, not a long trip from this one) the week following.

In both cases, they closed on a Sunday and reopened on Friday of the same week, after having done sales in (these stores) in Feb of 20% off odd items, March 40% off the same then the first part of April of up to 70% off many items (probably more items overall than not). So, if you see similar sales elsewhere, it's a good hint they are getting ready for the conversion.

(Note that not all Rite Aids will become Walgreens - the easy way to tell is that any Walgreens bought have the "This store now has a Walgreens Pharmacy" signs by the entry. Those remaining Rite Aid don't have the signs.
