A Very Dark Market District Clone: Market Bistro by Price Chopper

Location: 873 Loudon Rd., Latham, NY
Photographed: July 10, 2019 and May 18, 2025

Our next stop on the UNY tour is to one of Price Chopper's attempts at doing something completely radical.

This Market Bistro off Route 9 in Latham was previously branded as an ordinary Price Chopper, or more specifically, their third or so store in this shopping center. Their earliest known store here is currently occupied by Marshalls, and the initial replacement is currently occupied by a Raymour & Flanigan Furniture and Mattress store.

It is rumored that work was to begin earlier this year to convert this store to the Market32 design, however for financial reasons it has been put off until next year. So for now we will see this store's unique design.

Inside the dark, cavernous store we start with the food court area, inspired by Giant Eagle's "Market District". This space was actually part of the former J.M. Fields/Bradlees/Ames/Bon-Ton space before Price Chopper expanded into the portion right next to their store. The in-store Delicatessen is on the left-hand side of the store.

Past the food court to the right is the store's produce area.

One part of the frozen foods area. This part houses frozen meats and seafood.

I don't think that Milk sign is looking all that nice these days. And that wraps up our short tour of this store.
