Disturbing Cart Finds: A Ghost From Amsterdam's Past

Despite the main blog and the cart blog having a degree of separation, I believe this should be posted here as this post will get more traffic from retail enthusiasts than on the other blog. Well, I cannot say this afternoon's find was nothing more than shocking...

Driving up to Target and seeing this cart sitting outside of Kohl's was quite the shocker. Both retailers, which are attached to each other, use the footprint of this cart's former home, Super Kmart Center #4923, which operated from 1994 to 2000, and was demolished in 2007. Also somewhat disturbing is the still-intact Cheetos ad in the SmartSource panel on the front. UPDATE: Panel has a copyright date of 1999.

While it has the same date code as this cart, the child seat has the older Rehrig warning label, similar to the one on this cart, which is two months older. Perhaps this was when Rehrig changed the warning label?

Final thought: This was not something I wanted to find here, and it felt like I had seen a ghost. It is all the more reason to not assume everything will be the same with the stores or shopping centers you visit.

Like Jerry Springer would say at the end of an episode of his show or his news broadcasts: "Until then, take care of yourself, and each other!"
